Massive Weapons Cache Found in SoCal Home
March 2, 2007, 4:56 PM PST An attic fire in a Norco home led to the discovery of about 100 guns, at least 1 million rounds of ammunition and an underground tunnel, local and federal law enforcement officials said today. The man who lived in the house in the 1800 block of Pali Drive struggled with authorities about 3:30 p.m. yesterday, was taken into custody and placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold, according to Riverside County sheriff's Investigator Jerry Franchville. The resident, who lived alone, was reluctant to leave the burning house at first, then started fighting with sheriff's deputies when they arrived, Franchville said. "He was physically detained," he said. Once the fire was put out, authorities noticed a large number of weapons and a huge cache of ammunition, mostly in the garage, Franchville said. In the garage, firefighters also found a tunnel leading under the house, Norco Fire Department Battalion Chief Ron Knueven said. "We haven't gone down into it," he said. "What we've been told so far is that it goes under the house. According to a family member, it goes under the garage, then makes a 90-degree turn to the right and goes under the rest of the house." The suspect's name was being withheld, Franchville said, because of limitations placed on the release of information about people under medical care in 2003 by the national Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. The cache of ammo was believed to be largest ever seized in the county, he said. It was unclear if any of the weapons were illegal to own, Franchville said. Several other homes in the area were evacuated "to make sure that we don't have anything that could be ... a dangerous airborne or maybe explosive," he said. The cause of the fire was not immediately known. Copyright 2007, KTLA |

and his guns might be illegal, maybe not.... And... He made a tunnel? Ah... Pretty messed up,right there. Love the pejorative phrasing. What are the odds that on one out of those hundred guns there is SOME innocent minor snafu in the reg or something, making it illegal? Pretty good odds. Which probably makes all 100 guns count towards being an illegal weapon cache and there is some DHS patriot act type law that makes it 20-to-life blah blah blah. He's screwed. LG :smokin: |

:D If Drill doesn't show his face for a few days we'll know they got him.

Re: Massive Weapons Cache Found in SoCal Home
Was watching the news with the wife one time not long ago...
Similar thing happened here once. About 1/3 that many items. Had the guy on the news etc etc etc. The reporters were in front of the house with all their lights and they said " Investigators are checking now to try and understand why xyz had these items and if he has NAZI organization ties" ... Wife looks over at me and says " Wow, what would they say if they ever come here "?...I have never forgotten that. Psych ward...wow... Haystackneedle |

Stolen from survival blog:
Just imagine if he lived elsewhere: In Arizona, he'd be called "an avid gun collector" In Texas, he'd be called "a novice gun collector" In Utah, he'd be called "moderately well prepared," but they'd probably reserve judgment until they made sure that he had a corresponding quantity of storage food. In Montana, he'd be called "The neighborhood 'Go-To' guy." In Idaho, he'd be called "a likely gubernatorial candidate." And, in Wyoming he'd be called "an eligible bachelor." |

Re: Massive Weapons Cache Found in SoCal Home
Poor guy! I, too, want to know why they were allowed to confiscate his ammo. It's a lot of ammo, even by most of our standards, but is there a legal limit anywhere on ammo? I overheard a couple of guys in a gun store once talking about a third guy who had had his "Y2K ammo" confiscated based on how much he had stored, and it was only 20,000 rounds! Could have been a BS story, but I've been wondering ever since.

That house is probably within a couple miles of my oooolld neighborhood. Second amendment say anything about how many arms? If so I missed it. Oh and by golly, ain't allowed to have a hole in the ground under your house either. |
Re: Massive Weapons Cache Found in SoCal Home
Why would anybody with that much gear even think of living in Cali? Seriously, only other state more anti is Massachusetts. Dude should have bailed to more friendly enviros long ago (Wyoming, Montana, Idaho). Either that, or kept the cache off-site, out in the boonies somewhere. Cali and large weapons stash DO NOT mix! I just love the assumption that he MUST be crazy because he owns all those guns. Only crazy people own lots of guns! Dude is screwed for sure.

I also feel sorry for this guy. He's done nothing wrong - except live in the wrong state. I feel his pain and think this situation could happen to any of us for numerous reasons.

Re: Massive Weapons Cache Found in SoCal Home
The story on CNN's website said 2 of the guns were illegal and others were not properly registered.
If I were the governor of California I would send him to the Mexican border for target practice.:emotions16: |

I was born here in New York, very anti gun state. But I need to own guns and I'm trying to buy whatever I can. Moving out of state is out of the question, I make alot of money here. My field is software development, specialized in web applications, but not a typical web site but very complicated intranet applications large corporations use. I wont find a job doing this almost anywhere else (except California!) so I wouldn't make the money to buy guns anywhere else! He might be in a simialr boat. |
Re: Massive Weapons Cache Found in SoCal Home
Yes this seems to be pretty much the average CA Communist NWO freedom trap. Here anything you have on your person that COULD be considered a weapon IS a weapon and illegal to carry if a cop says so. I am not exaggerating. I had a friend arrested for having an 8 inch novelty baseball bat in his car for protection. If your knife (under three inches and FOLDING) can be opened too fast it is a switch blade no matter what and I and many of my friends over the years have lost our cutters to the popo.
CA is a scary place. Even if the guns were legal just because of the so called "strange circumstances" they will more than likely say that he didn't have a hazmat license for that much ammo (even though there is no law against it for a private home or person without selling it, personal use) they will charge and convict while the jury knows nothing of the laws. The defense attorney will convince that he has no case and plea bargain. Typical urban CA legal case. Just another day in the NWO. |
Re: Massive Weapons Cache Found in SoCal Home
It's important to note that under CA law there are no limits on the amount of firearms of any type or ammunition you can own and store in your home. The amount of ammo and guns they found aren't going to hurt him, legally.
Where he's got the DA's attention is with all of the black powder stored there. You can have < 50 lbs. of black powder in your home. > 50 lbs and you have to have stored in an offsite powder magazine, plus have a license from BATFE. Also, he has unregistered assault weapons in violation of SB 23, so they've got him there, too. |
Re: Massive Weapons Cache Found in SoCal Home
I respect everyone's right to stockpile a million weapons and all the ammo they can get their hands.
However... how could it be beneficial to own that many guns? I mean, if I have 10 or 12 I feel pretty well prepared. At some point it is just an obsession. Once again... STOCKPILING GUNS AND AMMO DOESN'T GIVE THE GOV THE RIGHT TO CALL HIM A PSYCHO AND CONFISCATE HIS LEGAL STASH. |
Re: Massive Weapons Cache Found in SoCal Home
If the guy was so into Survival why the hell does he live in Southern California??? Maybe he should have a psycho checkup...

For retirement. Some of that ammo I would bet has doubled at least in the last few years. He might have some ammo that has even more than tripled in the last seven or so years. Guns hold value very well also. |

Other people collect guns or shoot as a hobby. In my case my hobby also doubles with a survival/SHTF purpose.... or is it vice versa... either way. I work with some doctors who think nothing of dropping 3 grand on a bicycle they can only ride 6 months out of the year... and they have several... then they spend hundreds if not thousands upgrading the damn thing! Of teh guys who own 3 sets of golf clubs costing 2 grand each and a 10k membership to a club they can only play 6 months out of the year... I can't tell you how many have a porsche (or similar) they only drive for a few days out of the year "I have racing tires.. no I can't drive in teh rain, or snow or if it's too sunny or too cloudy...." Take the money invested into either the gold or the bike (huffy style) riding and you'd have a couple hundred guns too! I try and explain that to them but they don't get it. |
Re: Massive Weapons Cache Found in SoCal Home
Yes, well put. If we only had those things we needed and not wanted we would be living in a society of Spartans.
